Home at Last Rescue Mission Statement
Need a new home for your pet?
Navigational Menu Animal Picture Make every possible accomodation to keep your pet. Even though the housing market is tight in the Bay Area, and finding a new place to live where pets are welcomed seems to be getting impossible, there are still pet friendly landlords and apartment buildings out there. Offer a deposit and have references from your current landlord that show you are a responsible pet guardian and tenant. The San Francisco SPCA has put together a growing list with pet friendly housing information. Please Note: Home at Last Animal Rescue is currently unable to accept animals from private parties.

Finding a new home for your pet
If keeping your pet is not an option, please plan ahead and give it plenty of time!! Finding a new home for an animal is not a weekend project!! You've made a committment to your pet when you brought it into your home. It is your responsibility to find your pet the best possible new home.

Place ads in newspapers and distribute flyers in pet stores and on bulletin boards, online pet sites and forums. Home at Last can help you in finding a new home for your animal. We are willing to place a picture with a short biography of your pet on our website. Please fill out this form, and attach a picture of your pet to have your pet listed on our website. You are also welcome to bring your pet to our Mobile Adoption Events. There are important things that need to be considered before giving your pet to someone else. It is a good idea to have the person who adopts your pet to fill out an Adoption Application and an Pet Adoption Agreement, this will ensure that both you and the adopter have an understanding of a few key issues regarding your pet. Please contact us for more information. Also, giving you pet away for free is not a good idea, Pet Rescue explains in detail why this is not good idea. You will also want to screen potential adopters. You can use Pet Rescue's phone screening guides cats and dogs in order to determine if the potential adopter is suitable, and that s/he can provide your pet with a good home.

If you have found a lost pet
Contact your local animal shelter and animal control (A.C.C.) immediately. The pet's owner might be looking for his/her beloved four-legged companion. Distribute flyers within a five-mile radius of where you found the animal: in pet stores and on bulletin boards. Check out online pet lost and found bulletin boards. Home at Last has a lost and found pet bulleting board. You can also check Lost a Pet Foundation. Try place a found pet ad with these bulletin boards as well, as the owner may be checking these boards.

Found a feral cat or kitten?
Do approach the animal with caution. Feral Cats are very shy towards humans and are not to be confused with a "home grown lap cat". They can be quite aggressive when threatened. Do not attempt to handle a feral cat if it appears frightened. If you sighted Mom wiht her kittens in your backyard, DO NOT disturb the mother. Instead, put out some dishes with food and water so Mom can devote her time to nursing the kittens. Over time, the cat might get used to you and you might ba able to gain its trust. But remember, this is a wild animal, and socializing a feral cat takes a lot of time and patience. If the cat or kittens are in immediate danger of being exposed to extreme conditions, contact a grop such as Fix Our Ferals who specialize in the care of feral cats. The fantastic people of F.O.F. have saved hundereds if not thousands of cats in the Bay Area by offering free spay/ neuter clin! cs and advice onhow to care for feral cats. Please note that F.O.F. is a small group with no shelter facility, and therefore are unable to take owner-surrendered cats. Remember, feral cats and kittens should be trapped by professionals to have them spayed/ neutered. Home at Last has some great information on the care of feral cats and kittens.
